Peterson is an unincorporated town in Kirkland Township, Adams County, Indiana, United States.
Peterson, Indiana was named after Robert S. Peterson an officer in the Union Army during the Civil War. He later became city attorney for the town of Decatur, Indiana.
Robert was instrumental in obtaining rights-of-way for the railroads in that part of Indiana and this activism played a role in having a town named for him.
